Zubsolv® Treatment

Zubsolv® is a prescription medication that combines buprenorphine and naloxone to treat opioid use disorder. It helps reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms, supporting individuals in early recovery.

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) with Zubsolv®, combined with counseling and behavioral therapy, offers one of the most effective approaches to preventing relapse. Research consistently shows that medication and therapy work better together than either approach on its own.

At MATClinics, we offer Zubsolv® at all of our outpatient locations across Maryland. Our experienced providers work with each patient to create a personalized plan designed to support long-term recovery in a safe, structured setting.

What to Know About Zubsolv® Doses & Administration

Zubsolv® is taken as a sublingual tablet—meaning it dissolves under the tongue. It’s usually taken once daily as part of a supervised treatment plan. Because Zubsolv® is long-acting, it helps maintain steady levels of medication in the body to reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms throughout the day.

Compared to similar medications like Suboxone®, Zubsolv® offers:

  • A small, mint-flavored tablet that dissolves quickly
  • A range of available doses for tailored treatment
  • High bioavailability, meaning the body absorbs more of the medication

Your provider will determine the appropriate Zubsolv® dosage based on your medical history and treatment goals.

Stages of Zubsolv® Treatment

Zubsolv® treatment typically follows a 3-step process designed to keep you safe, supported, and set up for long-term success.

1. Pre-treatment Evaluation

Before starting Zubsolv®, our providers will meet with you to review your health history, current or past substance use, and any previous experience with medications like Suboxone® or methadone. This is your opportunity to ask questions, talk through concerns, and share what’s worked—or hasn’t worked—for you in the past.

We’ll also discuss where you are in the recovery process. If you’ve been using opioids recently, you’ll need to stop before starting Zubsolv®. Our team will help you time your last dose safely so you can start treatment without complications.

2. Starting Zubsolv®

Zubsolv® treatment begins when you take your first dose. To start safely, you’ll need to be in mild to moderate opioid withdrawal. This usually occurs about 24 to 48 hours after your last opioid use, though it varies depending on the type of opioid. Patients who have been long-time fentanyl users may need to wait longer than those who are taking prescription opioids.

If you’ve already been off opioids for several days, weeks, or even longer, you can still start Zubsolv®. In fact, induction may be smoother since your body is already clear of opioids. Zubsolv® is often used as a maintenance medication to help prevent relapse and reduce cravings in individuals who have completed detox but still need support.

Why Do You Need to Be in Withdrawal Before Starting?

Zubsolv® contains buprenorphine, a medication that binds strongly to opioid receptors in the brain. If opioids are still active in your system, taking Zubsolv® too early can displace them suddenly and trigger precipitated withdrawal—a fast, intense wave of symptoms that feels worse than typical withdrawal.

That’s why our team carefully guides you through the timing of your induction, ensuring you’re in the right stage of withdrawal before your first dose. Our goal is to make your transition into treatment as safe and comfortable as possible.

3. Maintenance Phase

Once you’re stabilized on a dose that works for you, you’ll enter the maintenance phase. You’ll take Zubsolv® once or twice a day and continue regular check-ins with your provider.

At MATClinics, we pair medication with behavioral therapy and counseling to help you work through the emotional, psychological, and lifestyle challenges that come with recovery. This combined approach helps reduce the risk of relapse and supports real, lasting change.
