MATClinics & NACATS: Advancing Addiction Care Access

MATClinics has long been at the forefront of ensuring individuals with substance use disorders receive the comprehensive, high-quality treatment they deserve. Today, we are proud to highlight the launch of the National Alliance for Comprehensive Addiction Treatment Solutions (NACATS), a coalition dedicated to improving addiction care nationwide, as announced in the official press release published on March 25, 2025.

Recognizing the persistent barriers in the addiction treatment landscape, MATClinics played an instrumental role in the formation of NACATS. By bringing together the nation’s premier outpatient addiction treatment providers, NACATS advocates for policies that prioritize effective, evidence-based care and ensure sustainable, patient-centered treatment solutions.

NACATS is tackling insurance and governmental policy-driven barriers to addiction care by advocating for sustainable funding, fair reimbursement models, and measurable treatment outcomes. As a founding member, MATClinics leads efforts to shape policies that strengthen addiction treatment infrastructure nationwide, ultimately saving lives and empowering communities.

What is NACATS?

The National Alliance for Comprehensive Addiction Treatment Solutions (NACATS) is a coalition of the nation’s leading outpatient addiction treatment providers dedicated to expanding access to life-saving addiction care. Representing over 550 facilities in 28 states and serving 166,000 patients annually, NACATS was founded to combat the systemic challenges that prevent patients from receiving the care they need.

Too often, outdated policies and inadequate funding models prevent treatment providers from offering a full spectrum of care, leaving patients without essential medical, behavioral, and social support services. NACATS is committed to changing that.

Why NACATS Matters

NACATS’s mission is to ensure comprehensive addiction treatment services remain accessible and effective. The alliance works to:

  • Secure sustainable reimbursement models that allow providers to continue delivering high-quality care without financial instability.
  • Standardize evidence-based treatment approaches that integrate medical, behavioral health, and social support services.
  • Establish transparent accountability metrics to measure treatment success and drive improved patient outcomes.

Strengthening the Addiction Treatment Infrastructure

“As overdose continues to claim over 100,000 lives each year in the U.S., many treatment providers are struggling to deliver the full range of resources patients need," said Steve Priest, CEO of Spero Health. "If these challenges go unaddressed, more providers will be forced to reduce services or close clinics, leaving communities without access to critical care.”

Financial and regulatory hurdles often limit access to consistent, high-quality addiction care. NACATS is advocating for policies that equip clinics with the resources needed to provide evidence-based treatment, reduce emergency room visits, and lower incarceration rates.

NACATS is also advocating for stronger integration between addiction treatment providers and the broader healthcare system. Collaboration with primary care physicians, hospitals, and mental health services can lead to earlier intervention, better coordination of care, and long-term patient support. By embedding addiction treatment within mainstream healthcare settings, NACATS aims to close treatment gaps and expand access to comprehensive care nationwide.

The Road Ahead

Through strategic advocacy, policy reform, and collaboration, NACATS is working to reshape addiction treatment in the U.S. By pushing for sustainable policies, comprehensive care models, and transparent provider accountability, the alliance is ensuring that individuals and families affected by addiction have the life-saving resources they need—now and in the future.
